Prevent Getting into Debt
Everybody knows the age old proverb: prevention is better than cure. This is a perfectly logical and sane advice, but many people still ignore it. In these harsh financial times it is very easy to get into debt but it is far more difficult to get out of it. In case of economic downturn or change in personal conditions people in debt can immediately find themselves in a potential disaster.

There are many ways to avoid getting into debt.
The first and most important is to create your own plan of savings. It is highly recommended to have the amount of at least three months of salary deposited safely, so you won’t have to worry in case you accidentally find yourself in a very uncomfortable situation (you lose your job, you have to move from your current home etc.). There are many ways to keep your money safely: you can invest it into stock and shares, or into private pensions, but the best option seems to be to open a savings account with as high interest rates as possible. On the long term this also seems to be a good investment, as the interests from your savings can bring you extra money in each month.

Another trick to avoid getting into debt, is to manage your money wisely and carefully. Here are some golden rules:

don’t forget to pay your bills in time, and if possible pay them via bank transfer. Some companies offer you discounts if you use online banking.
try to avoid the luxurious lifestyle: if you have to recover from a financial breakdown, cut back on buying expensive items and eating downtown in the most select restaurants.
do not use your credit card, remember that it will bring about another borrowing, so it is essential to keep your credit level as low as possible.
keep an agenda, that is organize your earnings and spendings in comprehensible accounts, so you will allways know what your duties are, and what bills you should pay soon.
when you need to buy something (insurance policy, or just simply a new electronic gadget) shop around for the best offers, maybe you can get the same product or service much cheaper.
buy a so-called income insurance. This type of insurance pays you a regular amount to help you substitute your incomes in case you become unable to work because of anillness or injury either long term, or short term. However, before buying this type of insurance check out what is covered and what is not, to see if it suits your needs.

To stay permanently debt-free is the most difficult task especially for college students. Of course, the typical student loan is hardly avoidable, especially when it is needed for such crucial issues as paying your annual college taxes. But regarding the everyday living, here are some useful tips for college students to prevent getting into debt:

first of all, it is very important to learn, learn and learn! If you don’t fail your exams, do won’t have to pay the taxes for reexaminations and retaking courses.
if possible, find a part time job. The income from this will be a considerable contribution and improvement to your everyday lifestyle.
if you have a credit card, use it carefully. When you need to buy something always search for good deals, maybe special, 50% seasonal, offers. It is no time for luxuries: off brand clothes, or items from outlets are also good options, and no one will tell the difference!
abandon all the bad habits: a life without smoking and alcohol is healthier and cheaper!
limit the time spent on partying. It is a very expensive habit, and there are many alternative ways of spending your free time, and of having fun free of charge!
open a savings account, ant put there 10% of any income you get from your full – or part time job.
make a monthly balance: that is write down all your bills you have to pay (rent, phone, car insurance), and calculate how much money you will need for that. Always put apart the amount of money necessary for paying your bills!
eliminate all unnecessary driving, so when you have gap hours, stay in the library and do your homework instead of driving restlessly between home and school.

It is not easy to save money, especially when your incomes allow you to live from hand to mouth only. But if you really want to do something about your future, you have to learn how to spend less, and how to avoid getting into some unnecessary debt. To have a debt-free life, consider the tips enlisted above, and keep them in mind!
