What is an Asset?

Asset covers many different words in the field of finance. Many people think whatever makes them money is an asset. Well it is considered as an asset: money, property and any real-estate, equipment, investments. Companies usually buy up assets to increase it's net worth. We can distinguish two types of assets and they are current or fixed. A current one means that it's going to be used up by the end of the year. And fixed ones are mostly the ones which are generating profits for more then a year such as tools, equipment, buildings and real-estate.
